Frequently Asked Questions

What is GridNow?

GridNow is a news aggregator and community hub for Second Life. It pulls posts from SL bloggers, event listings, and creator announcements into a single feed so you never miss what's happening on the Grid.

Do I need a Second Life account to use GridNow?

No — you can browse the public feed and event listings as a guest. You need a Second Life avatar to connect the in-world HUD and to unlock posting or event-creation features tied to a paid subscription.

How do I create an account?

Click Register in the sidebar and fill in your name, email address, and a password. Once registered you can link your SL avatar from your Profile page so GridNow can verify your identity and send in-world notifications.

How do I link my Second Life avatar?

Go to Profile → Settings after logging in. Your avatar UUID is filled in automatically when you log in through the in-world HUD. If you registered on the web first, tap the power button on the HUD while logged in to your web account — the HUD will link the two together.

What is the HUD?

The GridNow HUD is a small attachment you wear in Second Life. It opens a media prim showing the GridNow site so you can read your feed without leaving the viewer. It also lets you teleport to events, set event reminders, and receive in-world notifications about new content.

How do I get the HUD?

The HUD is available from the in-world GridNow vendor. Search for GridNow HUD on the Second Life Marketplace or visit the GridNow in-world location. The basic HUD is free.

What subscription tiers are available?

GridNow offers three paid tiers purchased with Linden dollars (L$) from in-world vendors:

  • Blogger — write and publish posts directly to the GridNow feed.
  • Event Organizer — list and manage events on the GridNow events calendar.
  • Superstar — combines both Blogger and Event Organizer privileges.

The free tier lets you read, follow authors, set event reminders, and comment.

How do I post an article?

You need an active Blogger or Superstar subscription. Once subscribed, a Post button appears in the sidebar. You can submit a title, body text, an image, and a link. Posts are limited to 8 per 24-hour period.

How do I submit an event?

You need an active Event Organizer or Superstar subscription. Click the Event button in the sidebar and fill in the event details including title, date/time, location SLURL, and an optional image. Events are reviewed briefly before appearing on the public calendar. You may submit up to 20 events per 24-hour period.

How do reminders work?

On any event card, click Remind me. GridNow will send you an in-world instant message five minutes before the event starts — provided you are online in Second Life with a linked avatar.

Can I report inappropriate content?

Yes. Click the ··· menu on any post or event and choose Report. Reported content is flagged for admin review and is hidden from the public feed until a decision is made. Please review our Community Guidelines before reporting.

How do I block a user or author?

Click the ··· menu on any post or event and choose No more from this creator (posts) or No more events from this user (events). Their content will no longer appear in your feeds. You can manage your blocked list from your Profile page.

I paid for a subscription but my account was not upgraded. What do I do?

Check your in-world chat for a confirmation message from the GridNow vendor. If you did not receive one, contact support with your avatar name, the amount paid, and the approximate time of payment. Make sure your SL avatar is linked to your GridNow account before paying.

Who do I contact for support?

Send an in-world IM to the GridNow support avatar or use the contact form linked in the footer. Please include your avatar name and a description of the issue.
